Delta State; Kidnappers Kill Soldier, Driver, Abduct Lebanese Engineer


There was security scare in Delta State, Tuesday, as four dare-devil kidnappers, armed with AK 47 rifles, allegedly shot dead a soldier and abducted a Lebanese staff of Setraco Construction Company at Ughelli, Mr. Harry Fadi.

In addition, a judge of the Delta State High Court, Justice Marshal Umukoro, miraculously escaped death, along Warri-Ughelli Road at Okuokoko community, when another set of gunmen numbering four riddled his KIA SUV with bullets along Warri-Ughelli Road.

The daring broad daylight escapades of the kidnappers sent a disturbing signal to residents, as well as security agents, who were combing suspected hideouts in the state for the kidnappers of Professor Kamene Okonjo, mother of the Minister of Finance, Prof Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Police will get the kidnappers – Commissioner Aduba
Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, who confirmed the foiled kidnap of the judge and abduction of the expatriate staff to Vanguard, said there was no cause for alarm, as the police would track down the kidnappers.

There was still no information yet on the whereabouts of Professor Kamene Okonjo, but a dependable source said workers in the palace were invited by the police to make statements on how the matriarch of the

Okonjo family was abducted.
Sources suspect that there could be an inside collaboration and police were waiting for clues that would lead them to the kidnappers, but at the same time, “they would not want to do anything that will jeopardize the safety of the aged woman”.

Pandemonium in Ughelli

Reports said that pandemonium broke out in Ughelli, headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, following the killing the soldier attached to Setraco Nigeria Limited, the construction firm handling the dualization of the East/West Road by gunmen.

A Lebanese engineer working for the construction firm was abducted by the heavily- armed gunmen, who stormed the construction site of the company at Ekuigbo-Ughelli at about 8am.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity said the expatriate was whisked away by the kidnappers in a Mercedes Benz 190 car to an unknown destination.
